Project Description: Anguo Temple was established in the first year of Tang Dynasty, formerly known as National Haichang Yuan. It is located in Yanguan Town, Haining, Zhejian, the world’s best tide-watching area. From Tang to the late Qing Dynasty, more than 60 emperors visited. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang once became a monk here and after he became emperor, he renamed here as “Anguo Temple”. Song Emperor Song Lizong wrote about this temple as “Temple of Wisdom” for the temple. Empreor Qianlong of the Qing visited the temple and gave a plaque with title of “Fahai An temple”.
The temple was first place that promoted Chinese Buddhism cultural to Japan and became the birthplace of Zen Buddhism. The great writer Su Shi of the Song Dynasty once donated money to build the Dabei Pavilion and wrote the “Anguo Temple Dabei Documentary”. According to the record, this national temple is the only temple in China with complete temple records, and the place attracted many blessings of
great Buddhist monks. It carries the responsibility as “historical shrines, hundreds of great monks, thousands of peaceful years, succession of ten thousand generations” and to promote Buddhism.
