In the field of architectural design, efficiency and precision are often the deciding factors in a project’s success. Reflecting on 2024, Jieser International Design took a significant step forward in our digital transformation. By implementing the AI planning software, Giraffe.build, we successfully reduced the time required for massing studies and regulatory calculations from one week to just a single day.

From “Intuition” to “Data-Driven” Design Evolution

This retrospective case study showcases two different configurations explored for a commercial development project. With the assistance of AI, we were able to instantaneously generate distinct schemes—such as “12-story” versus “6-story” options—while simultaneously observing their impact on the surrounding landscape and skyline.

Previously, architects had to manually calculate complex Floor Area Ratios (FAR), Building Coverage Ratios (BCR), and parking requirements. In this research set, the AI system provided:

  • Real-time Massing Simulation: Rapidly generating high-rise configurations and podium layouts.

  • Automated Data Comparison: Precise calculation of Gross Floor Area (GFA), Net Floor Area (NFA), and unit estimations for over 7,000 apartments.

  • Visual Decision-Making: Moving from hand-drawn style sketches to photorealistic perspectives, allowing clients to intuitively grasp scheme differences in the early stages.

Efficiency for Greater Creative Potential

Shortening the workflow from 7 days to 1 day is about more than just meeting deadlines. It allows us to return to the core of architecture—dedicating more time to contemplating spatial quality and the relationship with the environment.
